The Chakras

Chakra means "wheel"or "disk" and describes a spiritual energy center found within or above the body. We experience the world through the 7 major chakras, which is where our emotions live. These energetic centers regulate our emotionality and creative abilities, as well as our mental and physical health.

The chakras determine the life experiences that we need to have in order to learn to feel the emotions. The emotions that we do not learn to feel are stored in the chakra to which they belong, creating an imbalance that over time can become chronic pain. The major chakras are:

  1. Root Chakra: located at the bottom of our tailbone. Is associated with our basic needs, fears and survival. Is key to understanding our physical place in the world, our fight-or-flight response, and our connection with our ancestors.

  2. Sacral Chakra: located a few inches below the belly button. It governs passion, self-expression, creativity, power, and pleasure. An imbalance is associated with fear, anger, and past-lives issues.

  3. Solar Plexus Chakra: located two inches above the navel. It's the core of your personality, willpower, and identity. Sending Reiki to this chakra helps us deal with raw, unsettled, or unaddressed emotions such as frustration, anger, and rage.

  4. Heart Chakra: this energy center governs the ability to love, show compassion, forgive, grief, and hope. When out of balance, we can hold here fear, shock, or trauma.

  5. Throat Chakra: located at the center of the throat. It governs our ability to manifest, communicate, and authentically express ourselves. Is key to stepping into your power and embracing your abilities.

  6. Third Eye Chakra: it's located between the eyebrows. When there's an imbalance, we can experience stress, burnout, and hormone imbalances.

  7. Crown Chakra: this chakra sits above the crown of the head. By empowering this chakra, we can fully access inner wisdom, understanding our connection to the planet and all life forms.

  8. Moon Center Chakra: located at the level of the mouth. This is an additional and very important chakra. Deals with issues related with self-awareness in society, and with the feeling of shame
